Biotech's Life science dictionary
This free resource was developed by our staff members and contributors dealing mainly  with biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, cell biology and genetics.  This dictionary is searchable with hypertext links to explanations of terminology used in the descriptions. This is a BioTech Resources Web Project at University of Texas at Austin.

The Cell & Molecular Biology Online community with an emphasis on information for cell and molecular biologists. This web site is maintained by Pamela Gannon.

Genome
Animal Genome Size Database
A comprehensive catalogue of animal genome size data of vertebrates and invertebrates.  It includes chromosome numbers and size (in haploid C-values) for over 2900 vertebrates and invertebrates, from sponges to sapiens.  By T. Ryan Gregory.

 

Animal Testing
Altweb : Alternative to animal testing
Altweb is intended to foster the development of scientifically acceptable in vitro and other alternative methods to animal testing. It is being developed by the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins University, in collaboration with the Altweb Project Team, to serve academic, industrial and government scientists, educators, the media, and the general public.

Animal Diversity Web by the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology.  the site, which functions like a standard natural history textbook, offering information about the structure and classification of animals, basic concepts of ecology and evolutionary biology, brief reports on dozens of animals, and lots of pictures. It also features something not found in any traditional textbook: sounds from the wild, including wolf howls, bat calls, and frog peeps.

Entomology
Database on Introductions of Aquatic Species (DIAS)
The database include freshwater fishes, molluscs and crustaceans, and marine species. It includes records of species introduced or transferred from one country to another and does not consider movements of species inside the same country and statistics of the various species. There is a glossary for explanations of terms used.

Bugbios : shameless promotion of insect appreciation
A web site devoted to insects including how they affect our lives.  It is designed, researched and produced by Dexter Sear at Io Vision.

Plant & Insect Parasitic Nematodes
A site that discusses about nematodes from its taxonomy to as biological control agents of insects. Maintained by University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Department of Plant Pathology.

Forensic Entomology.com
Forensic entomology.com is the use of insect knowledge in the investigation of crimes or even civil disputes. It includes collection of entomological evidence, forensic entomology case histories and bibliography of this subject.  Links to sites include forensic entomology, forensic science and entomology.  By Dr. J. Forensic Entomology, or Medicocriminal Entomology
is the science of using insect evidence to uncover circumstances of interest to the law, often related to a crime. This site provides information on the science, history and case studies on this area as well as links to other related sites. By the American Board of Forensic Entomologist.

Malaria International Foundation
Its mission is to facilitate the development and implementation of solutions to the health, economic and social problems caused by malaria.  It provides a "one-stop" information site for questions on malaria including  travel advisories, drive against malaria and literature on the subject.

Cultures
Plymouth Collection of Algae
The main Plymouth Collection consists of some 280 strains from 71 genera of marine phytoplankton. It has a searchable database and online order form. The Collection plays an essential role in many research programmes funded by the NERC and EC. Fellows of and visitors to the MBA and PML (Plymouth Marine Laboratory) have utilised the Collection for their research. In addition, about half of all requests for cultures come from outside academic institutes and commercial users worldwide.

Ornithology
BirdNet
provides information about ornithology, the scientific study of birds. The site is a service of the Ornithological Council, a public information organization involving ten North American professional ornithological societies.  It also provides links to other related ornithology sites.

Fishes
Division of Fishes--Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. This site provides a link into the largest collection of preserved fishes in the world, a collection maintained by the Division. Its catalogue is searchable and gives instructions on how to request for specimen loans.
