Mathematics and Statistics E-Resources Online Guide
- Finding articles - Databases are useful to
identify articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, chapters
in books, reports and reviews. This are also known as Index and Abstract.
It will provide citations (the source of the article), abstracts (brief
descriptions of the article’s content) or full text articles (the
article in its entirety). Review articles from databases summarize
the current state of research on a subject by organizing, synthesizing,
and critically evaluating the relevant literature written for specialists.
The bibliography in a review article is usually exhaustive.
- Encyclopedias & Dictionaries and Handbooks are a
collection of informational articles on any given subject.
- Handbooks provide find formulae, definitions and or
often used as a starting point when researching an unfamiliar field.
