Periodic Tables
The Pictorial Periodic Table 
The elements on most tables are clickable which lead to information on each element. A list of isotopes are also given for some elements. It also has links to history of the periodical table, other periodic table and related sites. By Chris Heilman.

CAS Standard Abbreviations & Acronyms is a list of automatically generated abbreviations and acronyms in CAS publications and services.

Electrochemistry Dictionary

Molecular graphics program
3DCrunch
This is a Very Large Scale Protein Modelling Project, which was run from May 18 to 20 at the Silicon Graphics Advanced Technology Center in Cortaillod (Ne) Switzerland.

MolScript is a program for creating molecular graphics in the form of PostScript plot files.

RasMol V2.5 : molecular visualisation program is a molecular graphics program for the visualisation of proteins, nucleic acids and small molecules. It is maintained by Glaxo Research and Development.

Molecules of the Month 
Highlighting & exploring chemistry using the World Wide Web browsers and interactive 3D chemistry viewers - over 1000 3D models to view and manipulate. It features a new molecule every month discussing its the structure and chemistry. This site extensively uses two types of multimedia plug-ins for world wide web browsers.

VMD : visual molecular dynamics
This is a molecular visualization program for displaying and animating large biomolecular systems using 3-D graphics. VMD supports computers running Unix or Windows, is distributed free of charge, and includes source code. By the Theoretical Biophysics group.

WebMol - JAVA PDB Viewer 
WebMol was designed to display and analyze molecular structural information contained in the Brookhaven Protein Data Bank (PDB). It is free and can be run as an applet or as a stand-alone application.

The Learning Matters of Chemistry
The Organic Chemistry Resources project was started in the early 1994 as an organic chemistry resource aimed to provide learning and teaching organic chemistry materials on the net.  It includes computer graphics and animation of molecular models and atomic orbitals and online interactive exercises to enhance the learning of chemistry and use of the periodical tables.  It was initiated and developed independently and soley by Dr. Yue-Ling Wong and Ching-Wan Yip.

Organic chemistry interactive exercises  
This site contains instant feedback to multiple choice questions on organic chemistry. It is maintained by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The Organometallic HyperTextBook
An introductory reference for students covering all aspects of Organometallic Chemistry.  It has extensive hypertext links to concepts and terms as well as citations to references made.

NIST Chemistry WebBook
Contains themochemical data for organic and small inorganic compounds, reacion thermochemistry data, IR spectra, mass spectra, electronic/vibrational spectra, constants of diatomic molecules, ion energetics data, and themophysical property data.  Structures are given for most species, as well as common and commercial names.

It also has search forms for finding MSDS/safety data, scientific publications in over 20.000 different journals, physical data of chemical compounds, worldwide patents are available.  "It is an initiative of senior chemical engineers who spent too much time on searching information on the web...."

ChemFinder 
A searchable database of chemical substances gives the molecular weight, chemical structure, density, boiling & melting point, CAS registry number.  It includes links to other sites on its usage, physical properties, MSDS details, regulations and hazadous data.  A very good site

ChemWeb 
An internet club for the chemical community. It has a section featuring  new journals and free databases such as ADC Lab NMR Database, Beilstein Abstracts, CRC combined chemical dictionaries, etc.  Free membership and registration is required to use this site.  A very good site.

eMolecules
It offers chemists access to millions of public domain chemical structures and information about them. It allows searching by chemical structures, name or molecular formulae. Information presented included chemical structures, its chemical properties taken from PubChem site and links to suppliers of the chemicals.


Databases
Amino acids is a database of linear structure formulae for amino acids.

PubChem
Provides information on the biological activities of small molecules.

ChemExper Chemical Directory
A free service that allows to find a chemical by its molecular formula, IUPAC name, common name, CAS number, catalog number, substructure or physical characteristics. The information provided also includes MSDS, IR spectra and suppliers details.

LiqCryst Online offers free access to its demo-set database of structures and the LC Registration numbers of more than 70000 compounds. Searching is by structures drawing, compound names, registry number, etc.  The molecular mass, line notation and structure of the all compounds are displayed even when they are not in the demo-set. Registration is free.

Peptide Guide is a database for peptides and peptide synthesis. The site includes a Peptide Builder for constructing text representations for simple peptides and proteins from a database of 20 standard amino acids as well as a Peptide Mass Calculator for computing the molecular weight of a peptide or protein sequence.

PROWL
By ProteoMetrics, LLC. An interactive environment for protein analysis that can be easily accessed with any web browser over your intranet. It also has information about amino acids, peptides, a collection of biochemical recipes useful in protein mass spectrometry and information about contaminants known to effect mass spectra. It also has databases included are:

  • ProteinInfo - A phylogenically organized set of sequence databases.
  • ProFound - Search known protein sequences with peptide mass information.
  • PepFrag - Search known protein sequences with peptide fragment mass information.
  • Software - Software for protein mass spectrometry.

Protein Identification Resource
This public protein resource contains names and classifications of completed proteins and amino acids; the organisms from which the proteins originate; references to the literature; gene expressions and links to similar sites.  By the Georgetown University Medical Center.

TIGR Database (TDB) is a collection of curated databases containing DNA and protein sequence, gene expression, cellular role, protein family, and taxonomic data for microbes, plants and humans. It includes The TIGR Microbial Database provides links to world-wide genome sequencing projects completed and underway, including the completed TIGR genomes and The TIGR Parasites Database provides links to world-wide genome sequencing projects completed and underway. This site is maintained by The Institute of Genomic Research (TIGR).
