Photo Encyclopedia
A reference library of orchid species photographs by Jay Pfahl..
This is a labour of love for Jay and shows the extent that some
orchid growers will go to so that their accumulated knowledge can
be shared around the world. In turn photographers around the world
have made photos available to him.
The Orchid

This site gives a list of links to various information and commercial
sources about orchids. By Carson E. Whitlow
Papua New
Guinea Orchid News
This Web site presents details of all known genera from Papua New
Guinea (the eastern part of the Island of New Guinea). Shown are
representative examples of species in all genera and some sections
if possible. Additionally provided are line drawings and photos.
Our photo library is extensive and constantly being added to.

Online
Books
Rare
Books from MBG Library
The Missouri Botanical Garden Library has
digitized and preserved beautifully illustrated and botanically
significant books in their private holdings and is made available
to an international audience. Called the Rare Book Digitization
Project is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This project
will result in a large database of botanical and gardening illustrations
and text available to scholars, gardeners, and book enthusiasts
through this web site
Botany
online - The Internet Hypertextbook
This site was originally written in German
has English translation now. Contents include plant anatomy,
classic genetics, organic chemistry and plant biochemistry, intercellular
communication, interactions between plants, fungi, bacteria, and
viruses, evolution, and a part of ecology. Accompanying these
texts are many images and movies: micrographs of cells, interactive
molecular models, even animations modeling how cells form patterns.
It has also links to outside links. Hosted
at the University of Hamburg.
The Molecular
Biology of Plant Cells by H. Smith, editor
The book is intended as a text-book for senior undergraduate and
post-graduate students in biology, biochemistry, botany, molecular
biology and agricultural science. Published by eScholarship, the
California Digital Library
The writing
of Charles Darwin on the web
A rich online source of works by Charles Darwin. Full text online
with bibliographies as well as a brief biography of Darwin. By John
van Wyhe, hosted at British Library.
Movies
Plants-In-Motion
This is created for nonprofit educational
use by Roger P. Hangarter, Indiana University, Department of Biology.
Using time-lapse photography , it screens the movements of plants
and clearly demonstrates that plants are living and capable of some
extraordinary things such as Roots snake through the soil, flowers
furl and unfurl, bean plants deploy their leaves in the morning
and tuck them away at night

A
Guide To Common Vegetables
This guide features a wide range of vegetables available in the
Singapore local wet markets and gives a description accompanied
by illustrations and photographs of each vegetable. It gives
the local, genus, species, variety and family names. By the Singapore
Science Centre.
Freshwater
Macrophytes
This site records and archives pictures aquatic or semi-aquatic
plants found in Singapore and West Malaysian wilderness and farms
as well as in artificial tank/pond conditions; emerged, submerged
or marginal.

Arabidopsis Information Resource
Arabidopsis thaliana is a small flowering plant that is widely used
as a model organism in plant biology. This site archived 117 million
bases sequenced by a collaboration of labs around the world.
This database is searchable by genetic markers, clones, etc.
It also has links to analyze proteins as well as rules for naming
a gene.

AGRIS/CARIS
AGRIS is the international information system for the agricultural
sciences and technology. The system identifies worldwide literature
(both conventional and non-conventional; the so-called "grey"
literature), dealing with all aspects of agriculture.
CARIS is the Current Agricultural Research Information System, which
identifies projects dealing with information on agriculture. Both
are indexing database produced by Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations.
The Andean
Botanical Information System (ABIS)
This site provide information from the floristic and systematic
investigations of the phanerogams (flowering plants) of Andean South
America. It presents research on selected geographic regions or
groups of Andean plants, including the flora of coastal Peru and
Chile, floristic inventories of montane forests of northern Peru,
and monographic treatments with online images.
The International
Plant Names Index (IPNI)
This is a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical
details of all seed plants. Its goal is to eliminate the need for
repeated reference to primary sources for basic bibliographic information
about plant names. The data are freely available and are gradually
being standardized and checked. IPNI will be a dynamic resource,
depending on direct contributions by all members of the botanical
community.
Searchable
Databases of the New York Botanical Garden.
It includes the CATALPA (CATAlog for
Library Public Access); Herbarium Specimen Catalog; Index Herbariorum;
Index to American Botanical Literature; North American Bryophyte
Herbaria and the NYBG Living Collections.
Vascular
Plant Type Catalog
A catalogue of approximately 89,202 vascular plant type specimens
accompanied with digital images. This database also has basic
information from all types in these families. There is an
alphabetical list of available families listing the taxa for that
family. By The New York Botanical Garden.
