Please find the directional information for access to the Central Library from the Chinese Library in the following links :

Implementation of the library proxy service

With effect from 22 August 2003, the NUS Libraries would be implementing the library proxy service to authenticate NUS staff and students. All staff and students would be required to login to the library proxy service with the NUSNET Userid and Password before accessing licensed electronic resources.

Important! Please note that bookmarks of websites or electronic resources that you frequently visit now may not work after 22 August 2003. Your entry point should be Digital Library web portal, as that will ensure authentication of your NUSNET Userid and Password.

Over the years, the NUS Libraries have negotiated site licenses to an array of electronic resources for teaching and research use by the staff and students of NUS at preferential academic rates.

The contents of these electronic resources are copyrighted and licensed materials. As such, NUS is required to ensure that access is limited to ONLY authorized users. The implementation of the library proxy service is a means to achieve the required level of security. Failure to do so would result in either the removal of preferential rates or the termination of access to these licensed materials.

The library proxy service also provides NUS staff and students secure and convenient access to IP-restricted electronic resources via the Digital Library web portal from any Internet connection without using NUS-VPN or NUS dialup services.

Should you encounter any problems, please contact or .

Please co-operate by vacating the Library promptly.  Do not jam the main entrance, exits or staircase as you leave the Library. Assemble in an open area away from the building once you are outside.

New library proxy server to facilitate remote access to the Digital Library

On 1 March 2003, NUS Libraries will be launching a new proxy service to provide easy remote access to its Digital Library.  With this proxy in place, NUS staff and students can access the e-resources (such as ejournals, ebooks and databases) off-campus and overseas without having to dialup to NUSNET, install VPN or configure their browser’s proxy. Connection to the Digital Library website http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/digital/index.html can be made via any dialup or broadband links provided by any Internet Service Provider (ISP).

New Access Procedure to the Library’s E-resources

When a user clicks on the e-resources, he/she will be required to authenticate his/her NUS affiliation with NUSNET username and password. The new proxy server also provides added security to prevent unauthorised persons from accessing the e-resources. As such, the authentication step is also required when accessing the e-resources on campus.

Important Note

Bookmarking is not supported using this new proxy service. The bookmarks that you have created previously will not work from 1 March 2003. Please access the e-resources via the Digital Library.

If you have any problems accessing this service please contact Helpdesk at http://helpdesk.nus.edu.sg, the Information Desk of the various libraries, or check the FAQ at http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/help/digital/proxy/index.html.
