How to Search ScienceDirect databases: Author

Click on the down arrow to show the pull-down menu.

Select Authors.

Author names appear in a variety of formats according to the source document.

• To find articles by R Smith and Smith, R, type in smith W/1 r

  The proximity connector, W/nn, that can be used to specify the number of words between search terms. The W represents within and nn represents the number of words from 1 to 255.

• To find articles by RJ Smith.  Type in rj smith would find RJ Smith but not R.J. Smith and R J Smith (with spaces). To find all possibilities, use Boolean operator, rj smith OR r j smith

  Note: The system interprets the periods in initials as blank spaces.

• To find articles by Raymond Smith, Raymond J. Smith and Raymond J. A. Smith, type in raymond W/3 smith
  
• To find articles by R. Smith, Ray Smith, Raymond Smith, R Smith and RJ Smith type in smith W/3 r! to find all possibilities
