How to Search INSPEC: Specific Fields Search
You can specify a different field using the drop down list to search other than the default Abstracts, Title, Keyword.
For a full description of all the fields, consult the INSPEC online Search Tips. Some of the more important common fields are :
- Authors
- search for names of the authors of the article.
- Affiliation
- search for the institutional, corporate, organisations affiliations of the first author as quoted in the article, plus e-mail addresses.
- Search tip : Use the name of the town in your search in the "ALL FIELDS". Use all possible combinations for name of institutions.
- Example : To locate materials that quoted National University of Singapore, use Singapore and Nat.
- INSPEC Classification Code
- search using section codes. These section codes are assigned according to the main subject matter of the document. Go to http://www.iee.org.uk/publish/inspec/docs/document.html for the terms.
- Conference Information
- search for the conference title, conference date and location as well as the sponsoring organization.
- Example : Use ACM or Association for Computing Machinery for proceedings by this organization.
- Index Terms (combined controlled, uncontrolled and numeric data indexing)
- These are controlled index terms assigned to the document from the INSPEC Thesaurus, a 1995 edition is available at SCREF1 (Z699.5 Phy.It). These include free-language words or phrases (uncontrolled indexing) that are assigned by INSPEC indexers and structured numeric data which appears in the title or abstract document. (Organic substances are not covered.)
- Journal Name
- To search for journal title. Use the full title of the journal. Example : use Computers and Security.
- Patent Information
- INSPEC indexes Patent documents up to 1976 only. To search for Patent number, Application number assigned to the patent when originally filed, Country where the patent was originally filed and Name of the assignee of the patent.
- All Fields
- To search the full INSPEC record. This is especially useful for searching first author organisational affliation.
