This subject guide covers resources available at the NUS Libraries. This is not a comprehensive subject guide, but rather a selective list of materials that are most useful for locating information in Political Science.

Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

International Political Science Abstracts (IPSA)

This authoritative database from the International Political Science Association provides abstracts of political science articles published in scholarly journals and yearbooks worldwide. Topics include method and theory; political thinkers and ideas; political and administrative institutions; political processes (public opinion, attitudes, parties, forces, groups, and elections); international relations; and national and area studies. International Political Science Abstracts is the global standard for scholarly research in the field.

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, 1951-

IBSS’s main focus is on the 4 core social science subjects of Anthropology, Economics, Politics and Sociology.

Social Sciences Citation Index (via Web of Science), 1980-

Librarian's take: A popular index to the journal literature of Social Sciences. Includes  articles that cite the displayed article, related articles and in some cases, full text. Frequent updates makes it a good source for very recent information.

Social Sciences Abstracts 1983-
A bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from a wide range of social sciences journals. Covers the latest concepts, trends, opinions, theories, and methods from both applied and theoretical aspects of the social sciences.

Expanded Academic ASAP, 1980-

Provides indexed and full-text articles from sources covering Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Science and Technology.

Scopus, 1966-

Provides indexing, abstracting of and citation linking to journals in biology ,physics, chemistry, geosciences, agriculture, medicine, business, social work, and the social sciences. It includes peer-reviewed titles from international publishers, Open Access journals, conference proceedings, trade publications, quality web sources.

Librarian's take: Useful index to journal articles, book reviews and chapters, and conference papers relating to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN. Covers  humanities, social sciences, business, architecture, building, law & medicine. Includes materials not  indexed by other databases. Good for Area & Social Studies.

United Nations Official Document System
ODS covers all types of official United Nations documentation, beginning in 1993. Older UN documents are, however, added to the system on a daily basis. ODS also provides access to the resolutions of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council from 1946 onwards.

LexisNexis Academic (E-Resource)
Provides full text of hundreds of news sources including newspapers, magazines, and newsletters. Pretty good about having boxes to fill in, to help you in searching.

Press Clippings
Located in the Singapore - Malaysia Collection, Central Library. A useful source for topical and current information that may not be available in journals or books. Articles on Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN from The Straits Times and Business Times are arranged by broad subjects.
