Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

Scopus
Librarian's take: An abstract and indexing database to primarily Science and Social Science disciplines. An useful multidisciplinary navigational tool to journal articles and also to find out which articles are being cited by other scholars.

CSA Illumina
Librarian's take: Searches multiple databases such as Environmental Sciences & Pollution Management; Digests of Environmental Impact Statements; and Oceanic Abstracts. Includes Conference Papers Index to environmental sciences.

Geobase (1994- )
Librarian's take: Provides indexes and abstracts via SilverPlatter platform. Includes subject areas relating to Geography, Earth Sciences, Developmental Studies, Ecology, Environmental Pollution, Human Geography, Oceanography and more.

Engineering Village 2 (Compendex, 1969- ; Inspec, 1969- ; NTIS, 1899- )
Librarian's take: Full-text journal articles, proceedings, unclassified government reports to topics within scientific, applied science, technical and engineering disciplines.

Web of Science (Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, 1980- )
Librarian's take: Full-text journal articles, proceedings to topics within science, social sciences, and arts and humanities disciplines. Also include analytical tools in evaluating and ranking journals.

APCEL was established in 1996 by the Faculty of Law, NUS on the initiative of the Faculty of Law and the Commission on Environmental Law (CEL) of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Energy Sustainability Unit
Established in August 2004 at the School of Design and Environment through the support of the Economic and Development Board (EDB), the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
