Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

ICONDA: International Construction Database, 1976-
Librarian's take: The database includes the source documents from journal articles, books, conference proceedings, reports, and other non-conventional literature. It covers literature on building construction, construction engineering, architecture and town planning.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, 2005-
(1998-2004 available on CD-ROM)
It offers a listing of journal articles published on architecture and design, archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation.

Web of Science (Arts and Humanities Citation Index), 1987-
Librarian's take: The database's unique features including citation index, related records search and links to full-text of NUS Libraries journals, enable users to navigate beyond their research topics.

Frost & Sullivan online
Librarian's take: It offers full-text access to company's industry specific databases, industrial trends and reports for the industries on healthcare, telecom, IT, transportation, environment and building technologies, electronics and semiconductors.

Art Abstracts, 1984-
Librarian's take: A bibliographic database that coverage includes periodicals, yearbooks, and museum bulletins. Besides articles, Art Abstracts indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in indexed periodicals. Coverage begins with January 1994.

Business Source Premier (EBSCOhost Web)
Librarian's take: The database contains more than 3,800 business-related periodicals, full-text country economic reports (including EIU), reference books, scholarly monographs, industry reports, and company profiles.

Scopus
Librarian's take: An abstract and indexing database to primarily Science and Social Science disciplines. An useful multidisciplinary navigational tool to journal articles and also to find out which articles are being cited by other scholars.

Engineering Village 2
Librarian's take: Offers a wide range of full-text resources on applied science and engineering fields. A useful database for industrial and product design. It also provides access to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Esp@cenet, Scirus, GlobalSpec and EEVL.

Factiva  
A reputable business information resource that allows full-text searching for timely news articles from major national and international newspapers, trade journals, and wires, including The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.
