Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

Grove Music Online
Librarian's take: Full-text search with advanced capabilities and over 3000 links to related sites, including sound archives and illustrations with musical examples.

International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text
Librarian's take: A music journal resource with more than half a million indexed articles, plus detailed abstracts and full text from 1874 to current, covering the scholarly to the popular.

Music Index Online
Librarian's take: Covering all styles and genres of music, The Music Index duly cites book reviews, obituaries, new periodicals, and news and articles about music, musicians, and the music industry.

Naxos Music Library
Librarian's take: Naxos Music Library is the most comprehensive collection of classical music available online. It includes the complete Naxos and Marco Polo catalogues of over 165,000 tracks, including Classical music, Jazz, World, and Folk music . Whilst listening, notes on the works being played as well as biographical information on composers or artists in Naxos's extensive database can also be read.

International Computer Music Association
The Association serves composers, engineers, researchers and musicians who are interested in the integration of music and technology.

Music Publishers' Association
The Association exists to safeguard and improve the business and legal environment within which its members are operating.

Society for Music Theory
The Society publishes two journals, Music Theory Spectrum and Music Theory Online and works to increase the diversity of the discipline. This is to promote fruitful exchanges between music theorists, musicologists, performers, and scholars in other fields.
