Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

Engineering Village 2 (EV 2)
Engineering Village 2 (EV2) is the most comprehensive interdisciplinary Engineering database. Databases available are, Chimica, Chemical Business NewsBase (CBNB), Compendex, Inspec, National Technical Information Service (NTIS), etc. It has over 16 million records, some of which have links to full text. EV2 covers journals, conference proceedings, unclassified government reports, and more.

ENGnetBASE : Engineering Handbooks Online
ENGnetBASE is one of the most important Engineering handbook databases in CRCnetBASE. It contains a compilation of essential Engineering information, including data, facts, figures, graphs, equations, illustrations and charts. This database covers handbooks for all disciplines of Engineering, incorporating the subdivisions namely CivilENGINEERINGnetBASE, ElectricalENGINEERINGnetBASE, MechanicalENGINEERINGnetBASE and TELECOMMUNICATIONnetBASE.

For a complete list of subscribed CRCnetBASE handbook databases click here or click E-Resources > E-Books > By publisher > CRC Press > List Subscribed Titles.

IEEE Xplore
IEEE Xplore provides full text access to quality technical literature in the discipline of electrical engineering, computer science and electronics.

Science Citation Index Expanded (via Web of Science)
Science Citation Index Expanded (1980-current) is a multi- disciplinary index to more than 8500 of the most prestigious and high impact scientific journals.

Librarian's take: This database's unique features include: citation index, analytical tools in evaluating and ranking journals, related records search capability, and links to full-text journals subscribed by NUS Libraries.

ScienceDirect
Contains over 9.6 million articles from over 2500 journals. It also covers over 3000 books which include reference works, monograph series and handbooks. Some journals like Lancet goes as far back as 1823.

Scopus
Has 37 million records from over 16000 journals, including trade journals. Covers life sciences, physical sciences, health sciences, social sciences and business. Indexes journals, conference proceedings, and quality web sources. Some records have links to full text. It does citation tracking. A researcher can find out how many times a particular article has been cited.
