Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

ACM Portal
The ACM Portal consists of The ACM Digital Library, which is a full text collection from the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), and The Guide to Computing Literature, which is a bibliographic collection from major computing publishers.

Business Source Premier
Business Source Premier (BSP) provides market research reports from Datamonitor and MarketWatch, industry profiles and SWOT analyses. Most of the reports are for consumer products. BSP tends to focus on the US markets and very little on Singapore. Asian coverage is fairly well covered.

Computer and Information Systems Abstracts
CISA provides monthly updates on the latest theoretical research and practical applications. Major areas of coverage include artificial intelligence, computer applications, computer programming, computer systems organization, hardware, information systems, mathematics of computing, and software engineering.

Frost & Sullivan
This database is excellent for technologies such as RFID, waste management, surgical instruments, interactive multimedia kioks and also cover services such as call centres.

Gartner
Gartner provides original research and analysis reports on information technology and telecommunications intelligence. They have Magic Quadrants and MarketScopes for visual snapshots of the markets, and also Hype Cycles which show the maturity and adoption of technologies.

Scopus
Has 37 million records from over 16000 journals, including trade journals. Covers life sciences, physical sciences, health sciences, social sciences and business. Indexes journals, conference proceedings, and quality web sources. Some records have links to full text. It does citation tracking. A researcher can find out how many times a particular article has been cited.

Internet Sources

arXiv.org
An open access e-print service in the fields of physics, mathematics, non-linear science, computer science, and quantitative biology. It is home to the Computing Research Repository (CoRR). An FAQ guide is available.

CiteSeer
CiteSeer is a public search engine and digital library for scientific and academic papers. It has over 700,000 documents, primarily in the fields of computer and information science and engineering. CiteSeer has not been comprehensively updated since roughly 2005 due to limitations in its architecture design. It's a representative sampling of research in computer and information science but is limited in its coverage since it only has access to papers that are freely available.

CiteSeerx
CiteSeerx is loosely based on the previous CiteSeer search engine and digital library and is built with a new open source infrastructure. It has over 1,077,967 articles and 20,328,278 citations. However it is still in the alpha testing phase.

Computer Science Directory
This directory is developed as a project to list computer science links and articles with high quality.

Computer Science @ Yahoo! Directory
These are websites that have been reviewed by Yahoo! and found to be related to computer science.

Google Scholar
Search Engine which searches peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations.

Intute Computing Gateway
The Intute Computing Gateway provides free access to high quality resources on the Internet. Each resource has been evaluated and categorised by subject specialists based at UK universities.

NCSTRL (Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library)
An index of on-line technical reports and papers from 150 institution archives.

Scirus
A comprehensive search engine for Internet resources focusing on web pages with scientific content. With over 450 million scientific items indexed at last count, it allows researchers to search for not only journal content but also scientists' homepages, courseware, pre-print server material, patents and institutional repository and website information.

The Collection of Computer Science Bibliographies
This is a collection of bibliographies of scientific literature in computer science from various sources, covering most aspects of computer science. The bibliographies are updated weekly from their original locations such that you'll always find the most recent versions here. The collection currently contains more than 2 millions of references (mostly to journal articles, conference papers and technical reports).
