materials that are most useful for locating information in
South Asia.
Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles
in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in
books, reports and reviews.

Asia-Studies
Full-Text Online 2004-
Asia-Studies Full-text Online is a very useful database for the study of
modern Asia-Pacific. It brings together thousands of full-text reports
covering 53 countries on a multitude of business, government, economic, and
social issues.
Factiva Provides the
full text from nearly 8,000 sources from newswires, newspapers, magazines,
trade journals in 22 languages. Factiva also has company information for
listed companies around the world. Newspapers covered include The
Independent (Bangladesh), The Indian Express (India),
The Nation (Pakistan), and The Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka).
This database contains bibliographic information from an international
selection of publications (including over 2600 journals) in the fields of
economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology.
Produced by the International Political Science Association, the IPSA
indexes and abstracts articles on political science from periodicals
published throughout the world. The print version dating from 1951 is
available in the Closed Stacks.
An archive of important scholarly journals, JSTOR provides page images of
back issues of core journals in the humanities and social sciences from the
earliest issues to within a few years of current publication.
Provides citations to journal articles, series, books and essay collections
on linguistics as well as literature and folklore worldwide in all modern
languages.
PCI Web is a database of millions of article citations published in the
arts, humanities and social sciences across more than 300 years from their
first issues to 1995.
PERIND (Index to Articles Relating to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and
ASEAN)1980- A very useful database for references pertaining to the
bilateral relations between the South Asian countries and Singapore,
Malaysia and ASEAN.
A valuable resource for language and literature.
Project Muse offers full-text online access to a comprehensive selection of
prestigious journals in the humanities and social sciences. Their journals are
heavily indexed and contain peer-reviewed articles from eminent scholars in
their respective fields. Project Muse is also the sole source of complete,
full-text versions of titles from the world's university presses and scholarly
societies.

One of the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and
quality web sources. Updated daily, Scopus covers 29 million abstracts of
over 15,000 peer-reviewed titles from more than 4,000 publishers, 265
million references.

Web of Science (Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index,
Arts & Humanities Citation Index, 1980- )
Full-text journal articles, proceedings to topics within science, social
sciences, and arts and humanities disciplines. Also include powerful tools
such as cited reference searching and author finder.
EIU CountryData
A comprehensive database of economic indicators and forecasts, covering 327
series for 150 countries, as well as 45 regional aggregates, running from
1980 and forecasting out five years.
Selected theses & academic exercises received from the
NUS Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences pertaining to South Asian Studies are kept in the Library's Closed
Stacks under the call number JA36, HD30,
D6, HM15 and G58. These numbers will retrieve theses from the departments of Political
Science, Economics, History, Sociology and Geography respectively.
A comprehensive database of dissertations and theses records from around
the world . Where available, PQDT provides 24 page previews of
dissertations and theses. Allows natural language searching and the
menu-driven search facility help users find information quickly and
easily.
This is a list of customized "How to search" Library sessions teaching
users how to search specific databases, Library catalogue, etc. It may
include notes on how to use specific resources.
A useful site that brings together regional and country specific resources
on the Internet.
BBC World : South Asia
A very useful source for current\breaking news from/on the region as well as
in depth analysis and reports. The country profiles provide an overview as
well as background and facts.
British Association for South Asian Studies (BASAS)
A very active academic association promoting and supporting South Asian
Studies in Britain. It also facilitates communication between South
Asianists in Britain and other countries through its annual conferences and
workshops.
GandhiServe Foundation
The GandhiServe Foundation is a charitable foundation registered in Germany.
Its objective is to spread the ethics of nonviolence by disseminating
information about Mahatma Gandhi's life and works. The "Archives section" is
noteworthy.
Indra Gandhi National Centre for the Arts
The Indra Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), established in 1987
is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, India. It is a
centre for research, academic pursuit and dissemination in the field of the
arts.
OneWorld South Asia This site brings together a wide range of organizations to promote
sustainable development, social justice and human rights.
SANEI
The South Asian Network of Economic Research Institutes (SANEI) is a
regional initiative to foster networking amongst economic research
institutions in South Asia.
SAWNET
A Forum for and about women in the South Asian countries of Bangladesh,
Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
South Asian Diaspora Literature & Arts Archive (SALIDAA)
The SALIDAA digital archive aims to showcase the richness and diversity of
contemporary South Asian literature and arts in England by digitising a
variety of text-based and visual material accompanied by descriptive and
contextual information.
South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) The association was established in 1985 by the governments of Bangladesh,
Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It provides a
platform
for the peoples of the South Asian region to work together to accelerate
economic and social development.
The World Bank in South Asia
An excellent site for research and data on the World Bank's programmes and
projects for alleviating poverty in the countries of the region.

The Humanities e-books is a fully searchable collection of high-quality
books in the Humanities, recommended and reviewed by scholars and featuring
unlimited multi-user access and free.

netLibrary provides access to the NUS Library's collection of e-books. You
can access the library's e-books 24/7 on and off-campus. The e-books on
South Asia include titles on history, economics, politics and sociology of the
region.

A reputable business information resource that allows searching for timely
news articles from major national and international newspapers, trade
journals, and wires, including The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.
LexisNexis Academic (E-Resource)
Provides full text of hundreds of news sources including newspapers,
magazines, and newsletters. Pretty good about having boxes to fill in, to
aid you in searching.
