Search for Web and Internet Resources

The Internet has a growing amount of information available. To find the information you want may not be easy due to the vastness and variety available. Some options you can try are:

  1. Use a Web search engine. There are many engines available, the following are our recommendations:

    AltaVista | CicadaSearch | Excite | Google | Hotbot | Ixquick | NorthernLight | Yahoo

    • Use the keywords from your list of terms to formulate a search statement.
      E.g. children birth population incentives

    • Check the search features of the engine you use, as they vary and has impact on the way you type in your list of terms.

  2. Look for compilations of sites for your subject or topic. NUS Library compiles some Web sites for selected subjects, like Business, Economics, Law, Material Science, Medicine, Patents.

  3. Check out some of these Virtual Libraries which may already have a collection of relevant Web sites on your topic.

  4. Use the search enginer to check for the Web site of the organization that does work on your topic or the organization of the author you want to look up. E.g. To find out more about land transport in Singapore, search for Singapore Land Transport Authority or search for Transportation Research Board which organises conferences and produces publications on tranportation.

Remember to evaluate the Web resources that you find.
