Theses

NUS Libraries' Theses collection comprises of:

1) NUS theses
2) Foreign theses (full-text in print format)
3) Theses abstracts databases (with full-text in PDF)
4) Other Theses (free, full-text online)




1) NUS Theses

To search for NUS theses by call number (NUS Departments), click here.


How to Search LINC for NUS Theses
 

  At NUS Libraries http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/, under the search tab LINC+, enter search terms, e.g. family relationships.
 


A list of search results appears. On the left, under Refine By: -- COLLECTION, click on + more
 


(Note: Search results are sorted by Relevance by default. Choose to sort by "Title" or "Date" if desired
 

 
  Click on Theses collection

The search results has been refined. Click on the desired title to view details

To Request the item for view within library premises, click on Request it. Fill in your matric/staff/membership no. and library pin. You will be notified by email when the item is ready for collection.

  To do advanced search such as the type of theses (masters or PhD), topics and year of theses submission, at the top of the screen, click on Advanced Search


 

Under View entire collection, select the option Theses collection.

  In the list of results, click on the title to view details. Click on the orange Request button to request the item for viewing in the library


Some Location and Status of Theses and what they mean:

Location Status Action
CL Books Available Available for loan. Use the call # to retrieve from open shelves. Use the self-checkout machines to borrow.
HSSML Theses (Loans Desk) Use in Library Go to Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library Loans Desk to request and view thesis within library premises.
CL Closed Stacks (Loans Desk 3) Request Item Click on the orange "Request" button.

You will be notified by email when the thesis is ready for collection at the Loans Desk.

CL Microforms (Loans Desk 2) View in Library Note the STACK# and request at Loans Desk 2, Central Library.

Important Note:

Theses are for viewing in library premises only
Ask library staff for permission to make a copy of the thesis
Many NUS theses (print) deposited in the Libraries are of post-graduate level (doctoral ; masters theses (by research) and masters theses (by coursework)). Others are academic exercises.
Not all theses submitted to NUS are in the Libraries' collection as some of them may not be released by departments to the Libraries
Theses submitted solely in electronic format are not available due to copyright restrictions

2) Foreign theses (full-text in print format)

Theses submitted to foreign universities and obtained from UMI (University Microforms International) are usually kept in the Books collection or Closed Stacks. They are available for loan. See the steps in 1) NUS Theses to search for foreign theses in NUS Libraries.

3) Proquest Dissertations & Theses (database)  (with full-text in PDF)

 For NUS staff and students only via NUS Libraries Portal

NUS Libraries subscribe to ProQuest Dissertations and Theses which contains full-text with citations and abstracts of doctoral dissertations and master's theses submitted to over 1,000 North American graduate schools, European and Australian universities.

4) Free Online Theses

The full-text of theses from many academic institutions are available free online.
