Newspapers on Microform

Old issues of some newspapers subscribed by the NUS Libraries are only available on microfilm, especially Singapore
newspapers like The Straits Times, Sunday Times, Business Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Berita Harian, Streats, Today ... etc.
These microforms include pictures, advertisements ... etc, which are otherwise not available in electronic databases
like Factiva and Lexis.com.

NewspaperSG provides you with access to over 548,000 pages of searchable text from the Digitised Straits Times (1845-1982) and microfilms of other newspapers available in the National Library (Note: NUS Library users may note the article details from the search results and then proceed to view the full article from the microfilms in the NUS Libraries. How to search for newspapers on microform in LINC+

At NUS Libraries http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/, under the search tab LINC+, enter search terms, e.g. berita harian.

A list of search results appears. On the left, under Refine By: -- Format, click on the format MICROFILM

(Note: Search results are sorted by "Relevance" by default. Choose to sort by "Title" or "Date" if desired

At the desired title, e.g. Berita Harian [microform], click on Show all copies/volumes

Note down the desired Stack # (e.g. R0013210) and Location (e.g. CL Microform Room)

Go to the location indicated (e.g. Loans Desk at Level 4 in Central Library) to request for the material. Microforms are for use within library premises only

Some location codes and their meaning:

Location	Meaning
CL Microforms (Loans Desk 2)	Go to Central Library Level 4 Loans Desk
CL Selected Journals (Loans Desk 4)	Current Issues of Selected Newspapers
SC Microforms (Information Desk)	Go to Science Library (S6) Level 4

Important Note:

View the microform using microform viewers at the respective Libraries. Library staff will provide assistance.

In Central Library, the Microform Viewing Room is near the Loans Desk, Level 4 (floor plan)

Printing facilities (with cost) are available only in Central Library's Photocopy Room to reproduce microfilm pages onto paper

To obtain just the full text of articles (no images) from a large number of newspapers for recent years, search Factiva and Lexis.com
