  EndNote Web® is a web-based software that stores and organizes references, and enables you to import references directly into a Word document, formatted to your preferred citation style.

Follow the steps below to start using EndNote Web.

Step 1 - Set up account in EndNote Web via NUS Libraries Portal

Step 1 - Set up account in EndNote Web via NUS Libraries Portal

  1. Click on the hyperlink below to go to EndNote Web via NUS Library Portal https://proxylogin.nus.edu.sg/libproxy1/public/login.asp?url=http://www.myendnoteweb.com
     

  2. Click on Campus Login (in campus). If you are accessing from home, fill in your NUSNET ID and Password under "Login for non-IE users/off-campus users:"
     

  3. Click I Accept
     

  4. In EndNote Web, click on Sign up for an account. When choosing passwords, follow instructions closely.
    [Note: If you already have a Web of Science personal account, use this ID/Password to login]

     

  5. Click I Agree to the license agreement
     

  6. You are now logged into EndNote Web

Step 2 - Import saved citations from other databases (PubMed) into EndNote Web
  1.      Save the citations according to the directions for the database you are using. If you have questions about saving citations, please see "Importing References into EndNote Web" in LION by NUS Libraries
     

  2.      Login to EndNote Web. Click on the tab Collect.

     

  3.     Click on Import References.

     

  4.     Click the Browse button and locate the file with your citations.

       

  5.     Under Filter, select the database from which you found the citations.  

     

  6.      Click Import to bring your citation list into EndNote Web. 
       
     

  7.      The citations will be placed in the Unfiled folder under My References tab

Step 3 - Organise references into folders or Groups

In EndNote Web:

a.    Under My References tab, Click on Unfiled

 

b.  Select the references to be moved to a new folder.
Under Add to Group…, click on New Group


 

c.   Type a new group name and click OK.


 

d.   A new group is created.

Step 4 - Install Cite While You Write so that Word can "communicate" with EndNote Web (one-time installation)

Method 1

Login to a PC on NUSNET.

Click here for installation instructions.

Click here to start the installation.

Method 2

Login to EndNote Web.

a. Click on the tab Format.

b. Click on Cite While You Write™ plug-in.

c. Under Cite While You Write™, click on Download Windows with Internet Explorer plug-in.

d. Click Save to save the file onto your computer.

e. Close all applications including the web browser. Double-click on the file and click Run to install. (Important: You should have administrator rights on your computer)

f. Follow instructions to install the program.

g. Upon successful installation, the toolbar EndnoteWeb 2.0 would appear at the top of the web browser

h. The EndNote Web toolbar also appears in Microsoft Word.


Known installation errors and suggested solutions:
If you encounter the error message "The EndNote Web 2.0 installer is unable to deliver Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) support files to your system. Please re-run this setup after a reboot." please click here for a solution.

Step 5 - Import citations from EndNote Web into Microsoft Word
  1. Type a document. Position the cursor at the location where you want the citation to appear.    
       

     

  2. Click the Find Citation(s) button on the EndNote Web toolbar.     

     

  3. Enter a search term to find the reference stored in your EndNote Web. Click on Search
      

     

  4. Select the reference you want to insert.
      

     

  5. Click on Insert.
      

     

  6. The reference will be inserted into the Word document, with the bibliography entry listed at the end of the page. 
        
     
      

     

  7. Click on the icon shown (Format Bibliography) to change the reference format or style


     

  8. Under With output style, select the preferred style (eg. APA 5th or Quintessence International or J Amer Medical Association, etc.)
