How do I access full-texts (via library proxy) from links obtained from external websites?

1. Searching articles from the web

When you browse different sites for relevant articles pertaining to your topic, you may wish to view the full-texts from the URL links displayed in your search results. The NUS Libraries have online subscriptions for a large number of the references retrieved. To access the full-texts of the required references, you will have to install the Proxy Bookmarklet.

  2. What is a Proxy Bookmarklet?

It is a bookmark that automatically prepends the NUS Library proxy to the required  URL link in your browser. This allows you to view the URL as though you were on campus, giving you access to materials licensed for use by NUS staff and students. If you are not authenticated, you will be prompted for your NUSNET ID and password.

 3. How do I install the Proxy Bookmarklet in my browser?

  For Internet Explorer:
1) Right click on this link: <NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet>.
2) Select "Add to Favorites".
3) If you wish to add to "Links", go to "Favourites" and drag and drop the bookmarklet to "Links".

Note:
· Alternative installation method for IE7 only: Click and drag the link to the "Links" toolbar.
· If a warning message: "You are adding a favorite that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?" appears, click "Yes" to continue.
· If the "Links" toolbar is not visible in the web browser, go to View->Toolbars menu of the browser to enable it.

  For Mozilla Firefox:
1)  Right click on this link: <NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet>.
2)  Select "Bookmark This Link". Or click and drag the link to the "Bookmarks" toolbar.

 For Safari:
1)  Click and drag this link: <NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet> to the "Bookmarks" bar.

 4.  How do I use the Bookmarklet to 'proxy' the URL links in search results?

Go to the list of search results and click the required link.

A browser session will open for the link where access to the required article is restricted.

Click the "NUS Libraries Proxy Bookmarklet" which you have installed in your Browser toolbar/Bookmark/Favourites.

The full-text is now accessible.
Note:
You may be prompted to login to the library proxy if you have not done so previously.
