(Selection of drama manuscripts from Che-wang Mansion in Beijing). Beijing : Beijing Classical Publishing, 1996. 1100 v. in 200 cases.
CH Classical Coll PL2597 Qcwf

The collection of drama manuscripts kept at the Che-wang Mansion in Beijing contains rich primary resources on the development of Chinese drama in the Ch'ing dynasty (1644-1912). It was collected by a branch of the Ch'ing royal family during the late 19th century when classical drama, Northern short plays , were gradually losing their appeal compared to popular local dramas such as I-yang and Kao-yang air plays, Peking operas, etc.
Most of the manuscripts were never published, and were not listed in drama bibliographies. More importantly, many of the works reflect the social life and customs of the late Ch'ing society. The language used in the manuscripts is rich and varied.
This selection, reproduced by the Beijing Classical Publishing House, represents two-thirds of the total original manuscripts now kept at the Capital Library in Beijing.
