For the first time in NUS, long service awards were presented to administrative and library professional staff. The ceremony was held on 22 April 1996. Thirty-four library staff received the awards including Miss Jill Quah, Mr Michael Cheng, Miss Lim Bee Lum and Mrs Sng Yok Fong who received awards for 30 years of service.

The non-academic staff long service awards in 1996, saw 71 library staff receiving their awards including Mr Lim Hong Piaw and Mrs Tan Yam Hua who were receiving their award for 35 years of service. The 1995 and 1994 long service awards saw 14 and 27 library staff, respectively, receiving awards.

If you add up all the working years of the library staff who received their long service awards only for this year, the total would be 1,660 years.This would not include those who have received their awards in other years and those who have not yet reached the designated number of years where awards are given. If those years were also included, it is amazing just how much combined experience and knowledge our library staff has.

We would like to say a big thank you to our staff for their many years of loyal and valuable service to the Library and the University.
