Medical Library will soon have a complete closed stacks collection on site. Presently, the Medical Library Closed Stacks (MDCS) collection is partially kept in the Science Library Closed Stacks. The library extension project was started in February 1996 and is expected to be completed by August 1996. When the compactus shelving arrives, the MDCS collection in the Science Library will be moved back to Medical Library. We estimate that the on-site Closed Stacks collection will be ready sometime in 1997. Users can then look forward to a shorter turnaround time for all closed stacks requests.
The new extension will also allow us to retire more old publications, both books and bound journals, to the Closed Stacks. This would free more shelf space for new publications and both users and library staff will then find retrieving books and shelving them back an easier task.
Hoarding boards have been put up around the areas under construction in the library. Work is still in progress and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
