A warm welcome to all the new students. You now have access to the resources of the largest academic library in Singapore. The NUS Library System comprises the Central Library and five Special Libraries, namely the Chinese Library (within the Central Library Building), the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library (for Business Administration), the Law Library, the Medical Library and the Science Library. The Central Library houses the humanities, social sciences, engineering, architecture and building collections.
During the next few years, you will need to use the Library frequently in connection with your studies and research as well as reading for personal growth. How effective a library user you can be will depend on whether you know how to use the library well.
We therefore cordially invite you to attend the library orientation programme planned especially for you; it will introduce you not only to the library's resources and services but also ways to access them efficiently.
The Central Library offers briefing-cum-demonstration sessions which feature demonstrations on how to search LINC, the NUS Library's online catalogue as well as a briefing on Library InfoGate which contains the NUS Examination Papers and other databases. Check the schedule and you may attend any session. The details of the separate orientation programmes to be held at the five Special Libraries are also available. In addition, we have a video programme on the NUS Library. This 18-minute introduction to the Library is available for viewing during office hours. Please enquire at the Information Desk of any library.
Last but not least, be sure to get a copy of the NUS Library Guide when you matriculate. The guide contains the NUS Library Rules and also information sheets on all the NUS libraries which you can use to take a self-conducted tour. Detailed guides on Library InfoGate, the electronic document management and retrieval system of the NUS Library, and LINC are included.
The NUS Library awaits your discovery and help is always available from the staff at the Information Desk in all the libraries.
