It is about revamping business processes and radically redesigning the way we work to achieve maximum results and performance. These videos listed here introduce the concept of reengineering and describe the stages in applying reengineering. Raymond L. Manganelli, CEO of Gateway Management Consult ing, describes the concepts of reengineering to a work team. Manganelli illustrates reengineering concepts through the story of William Sowden Sims, a US Navy officer and his efforts to change the way naval gunners did their jobs. His success depended on knowledge, insight, perseverance and President Roosevelt's support in overcoming the traditional conservatism of the operational man agement.

In a follow-up video, Raymond Manganelli talks about the proc ess of reengineering preparation; identification and vision; and de sign & implementation. A case study is used to illustrate each of these stages. Grace Logistics Services, a company that offers ware housing and packaging services, in its process of evaluating its Operational Information System evolved into a companywide business reengineering project that spanned all functional areas. Polaroid Corporation's identification and creation of the vision process is the second case study. The third stage is illustrated by the case of AT&T Capital Leasing Services redesigning their credit application process, applying technology, redefining jobs and restructuring their organization.

This programme presents the compelling stories of three manufac turing companies that have reengineered themselves successfully. Pratt & Whitney reengineered its work flows by consolidating business units, regrouping identical tasks, cross-training of shop floor employees on all aspects of manufacturing and design engineers were encourage immediate online problem solving. Texas Instruments Semiconductor Group applied reengineering to reconceive its worldwide operations as a single 'virtual factory'. General Motors' Saturn Corporation reengineered relationships between management and labor as part of a successful strategy to reinvent the American-made small car.

Three service-oriented companies that have shown the way to reengineering themselves into industry leadership are profiled in this program. CSX/American Barge Line Company streamlined its operations. Brooklyn Union Gas applied reengineering to customer service and sales operations by imagining itself as customers saw it. Tufts Associated Health Plans attacked its bloated claims processing system replacing a blizzard of paperwork with streamlined electronic records system.
