Video-on-Demand

Since June 1995, the University has implemented the Video-on-Demand (VoD) Service on NUSNET-II, the campus-wide network. This enables staff and students to view selected video programmes at the Computer-Based Learning Room in the Central Library (3rd floor) where 10 units have been set up by the Computer Centre. VoD Service clusters are also available in Computer Centre, Faculty of Architecture & Building, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Law.

The Central Library's Media Resources Dept has provided the following titles, recommended by the teaching staff for individual courses, in the Training category of the service :

Examines some popular, yet commonly mistaken attitudes towards the aged and their place in society. Discusses two major theories on the aged Ñthe 'activity theory' and the 'disengagement theory' and the research being done at the University of Chicago.

This lecture, for the Faculty Enrichment Module, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, emphasizes two imperatives for students to develop creative thinking skills: for personal development and fulfilment and the importance for Singapore to have innovative thinkers and doers so as to become a fully developed nation. Eight types of thinking are discussed and examples of creative thinkers, from Benjamin Franklin to Sim Wong Woo, are provided.

Based on recommendations from faculty members, the Library will purchase new titles for loading on the VoD Service, subject to copyright clearance. In view of the time required to source and seek copyright clearance, it would be appreciated if faculty members could submit their recommendations, as early as possible, to:

  • Heads of Special Libraries
