Lim-Yeo Pin Pin, LINUS Editor

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the National University of Singapore, the NUS Library received a gift of a two-volume set from B.H. Blackwell Ltd in London.

The book is entitled The cruise of the Marchesa to Kamschatka & New Guinea with notices from Formosa, Liu-Kiu and various islands of the Malay Archipelago, by F.H.H. Guillemard and published in 1886. It records Guillemard's journey which spanned 8 Jan 1882 to 14 April 1884, and contains maps and many lovely engravings of the sights of his journey.

Guillemard (1852-1933) was a naturalist and writer, travelling widely in many parts of the Old World, Lapland, South Africa, Madeira among other places. After his journey on the Marchesa, he brought back large zoological collections ... published a Report on ornithological collections made during the cruise of the Marchesa in Proc. Zoo. Soc.
-- Taken from Who was who 1929-40.
