With effect from 1 June 1995, Mrs Lee Cheng Ean has been appointed Acting Head of the Serials Department in Central Library.
Ean graduated from the University of Malaya with Honours Class II (Upper Division) in Creative & Descriptive Writing in 1981 and joined Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Kuala Lumpur as a Temporary Research Officer for a short while. In 1981 December she joined the National University of Singapore Library as a Trainee Librarian. After a three-month induction, she was posted to the Acquisitions Department in Central Library.
In 1983, she went off to the United Kingdom, armed with a NUS Training Scholarship, to pursue a professional library degree. She obtained a Master of Arts degree in Library & Information Studies from the Loughborough University of Technology after one year. Upon her return, she rejoined the Acquisitions Dept but was deployed to the Circulation Department and appointed as Library Automated Circulation System Coordinator in 1984. In 1985, she became an Assistant Librarian. After four years of taking charge of the Circulation system, she was redeployed to the Acquisitions Department in 1990 and promoted to Assistant Librarian I in 1992. Ean was also a WITs facilitator from 1986 to September 1995.

As the new head of Serials Department, Ean aims to continue to maintain the best periodical collection in this region and ensure that the current issues of the journals subscribed by the NUS Library are made available to the users in the shortest time possible. She also looks forward to providing, with the cooperation of the Serials team, better services to the users.
