Current Contents Connect Guide

Current Contents Connect (CCC) is published by the Institute of Scientific Information and allows you to search for new journal articles from all 7 editions of Current Contents:

  1. Agriculture, Biology & Environmental Sciences
  2. Social & Behavioral Sciences
  3. Clinical Medicine
  4. Life Sciences
  5. Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences
  6. Engineering, Computing & Technology
  7. Arts & Humanities.

Also included are current contents from journals and trade magazines for two new collections:

  1. Business
  2. Electronics & Telecommunications

The database is updated weekly and is a good way of keeping up-to-date with the literature published in your subject area.

Access

  1. Point your Web browser to http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/.
  2. Click on Digital Library.
  3. Under Browse by Title, click on Indexes and Abstracts and Continue.
  4. Click on Current Contents Connect in the list shown.
  5. Click on Start at the top of CCC home page.
  6. Select the editions you want by checking the boxes and the period you want.
    By default, all editions are selected and for the latest week. File depths you can select are Latest week, Latest four weeks, Latest six months and Extended file (2 years).Click on Submit Limit Changes or click on Search if you have not changed the limits.

Search

By default, the search is in Topic/Subject. Click on the down arrow to select another field to search. You can choose to search in Title, Author, Discipline among others.

Enter one or more search terms in the right hand box. Click on Search to execute the query. For help with contructing your search statement, click on Search Examples.

The results of your search is posted in the Results table. Click on the Eye to view the summary list of records. The Summary Results page allows you to view 10 records at a time and to mark 10 records at a time for saving and printing.

Click the article title to view the full record. You can also mark an individual record at the full record screen.

Click on the Source in the full record display to see the Table of Contents for that journal issue.

List, Save and Print

After marking all the necessary records, click on List at the top of the screen. Click on Select format, sort order, and action to sort the record, select print format or export format.

Click on Reformat for Printing to print your marked records.

Click on Save to File to save the marked records, or click on Export to Procite/Reference Manager if you want to save the records to a database. Note that Reference Manager is available through Windows Shopping on NUSNET.

Browse

Another feature in CCC is the ability to browse the Table of Contents of the journals included in the database. The Table of Contents can be viewed by journal title or by discipline.

Click the first alphabet of the journal title or the discipline you want to browse followed by the title of the journal. The Table of Contents page for your selected journal is displayed and you can see what articles have been published in recent issues of the journal.

E.g. Click on Social Studies of Science to see its table of contents:

Full Text of Articles

CCC is not linked to the full text of the journal, even if the NUS Library subscribes to the electronic version of the journal. If you wish to read the full article, go to LINC and search by title to see if the NUS Library subscribes to the journal and if there is an electronic version, you will be able to read the article on your desktop.

Save Session

CCC allows you to save a search session, so that it can be run again later. This is especially useful if you are tracking the literature in a particular area and you can quickly run the search when the database has been updated.

When you have entered a search that you are satisfied with, click on Save Session. You will get the CCC Profile page, where you can further edit the profile, if necessary.

Click on Save Profile and you will be prompted to indicate a drive and folder to save the profile.

To run the profile, from your Web browser, use File and Open profile.html which you have saved previously.

At the CCC Profile page, click on Run Profile and select the editions and time frame to search. Click on Submit Limit Changes and the terms in the profile are run against CCC and you can view the results.

Help

For general help with using CCC, click on the Help icon at the top of the screen. For help with your search terms, click on Search Examples at the search screen.

Logout

Close the Web browser or go to another Web site to exit from CCC.
