Awards for our volunteer police

Lim-Yeo Pin Pin, Editor

The NUS Library congratulates K. Ramu, S. Ramasamy and M. Vellasamy who were awarded Long Service (Pingat Bakti Setia) and Good Conduct Medals by the Singapore Police Force in December 1999 for their contribution as Volunteer Police Officers.

K Ramu K. Ramu is an Operations Support Officer with the Serials Section of the Technical Services Division in Central Library. Besides receiving this award from the Police Force for 16 years long service, he also received an award for 10 years long service with the Management Committee of the Ayer Rajah Community Centre.

S. Ramasamy S. Ramasamy is a Technical Support Officer with the Reprographics Services Dept in Central Library. His award is for 17 years service with the Police Force starting in 1982.

M. Vellasamy M. Vellasamy is a Technical Support Officer with the Reprographics Services Dept in Central Library. His award is for 16 years service with the Police Force starting in 1983.

They have been contributing their time after work, usually putting in 5 hours for 2 to 3 times a week. They are happy to have their contribution recognised. This is their way of doing community service and they feel it is a worthwhile way of spending their free time. The trio spent their end of millenium weekend helping with crowd control for various millenium events held in Singapore.
