| Japanese Collection in
Chinese Library
The Japanese Resources collection is one of the special collections within the NUS Chinese Library. It was established with the generous donation from the Japan Foundation in 1982 and was set up as a department in the Central Library, to support learning, teaching and research needs of the Department of Japanese Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The department merged with the Chinese Library in October 2002. After more than 20 years of growth, the Japanese collection has about 61, 000 volumes, one-tenth of the Chinese Library collection. It is one of the largest library resources of its kind in this region. The print materials of the Japanese Collection are currently housed
at the upper level of the Chinese Library. It is particularly rich
in literature, history, language and social studies on Japan.
Some notable titles in the collection include Kokushi
daijiten(国史大辞典), Nihon koten bungaku taikei (日本古典文学大系). In recent years
special attention has been given to acquiring materials on Japanese
Sinology and popular culture in Japan.
