Q. I am prompted for a username and password when I try to access an ejournal in ScienceDirect.
You may be prompted for a username and password when trying to access an ejournal via ScienceDirect for various reasons:
- If you access the ScienceDirect website directly instead of
accessing from LINC or the Digital Library
If your access is not routed via the library proxy (e.g. via LINC or Digital Library), you will not be able to access the journal articles from the ScienceDirect website. If you prefer to access the ScienceDirect website directly, please follow this URL http://libproxy1.nus.edu.sg/login?url=http://www.sciencedirect.com/
to ensure that your access is routed via the library proxy
- If you click on a hyperlink in your email alert from
ScienceDirect
Please append the following URL prefix to the URL(s) in your email to ensure that your access is routed via the library proxy:
http://libproxy1.nus.edu.sg/login?url=.
For example, your email alert may contain the following URL: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6VD0-489453V-2/1/7d5676518ce68c4793b8e6d19e4fe1a4
To route it via the library proxy, append the URL prefix as follows: http://libproxy1.nus.edu.sg/login?url=

- If you are using NUSNET Dialup and have not set your browser
to the NUS automatic configuration
Please follow the instructions to configure your browser's proxy.
If you have not registered yourself with ScienceDirect, you will need to complete a one-time registration as shown below. A username will be assigned to you to access the non-subscribed titles in ScienceDirect.
To register:
1) Go to ScienceDirect Home page at
http://libproxy1.nus.edu.sg/login?url=http://www.sciencedirect.com/
2) Click on "Register" at the top right-hand corner of
the page
3) Complete the registration form and create your own password.
4) Upon successful registration, you will be assigned a user name.
