Q. What is an access control system?

Computerized card access control systems are used in many departments throughout the university.

Similarly, staff and student cards will be used to authenticate and gain access into the libraries via the turnstiles ( gates ).

Only access into the library is controlled. Exit points are not controlled.

Q. What are the objectives of access control?

The University adopts an open campus concept, as such any person can enter the University grounds. Access control will improve security by ensuring that only bona fide users are allowed to enter the library.

In addition, access control will also help us to alleviate space problems.

Q. What happens if I forget to bring my card?

During the initial implementation period, Library staff will need to ascertain if you are an eligible member. Upon confirmation, the staff will override the access control system for you to enter the premises.

There will be a grace period of two months after the start of access control. After this period, students will no longer be allowed entry into the premises if they forget to bring their cards.
