A. General Rules

  1. Conduct prejudicial to the proper use of the library is forbidden.

  2. Smoking, food and drinks are not allowed in the library.

  3. Silence shall be observed in the public areas of the library. Handphones, pagers and watch alarms should be switched to silent mode before entering the Library.

  4. Users of the Library should be appropriately attired.

  5. Seats in the Library may not be reserved.

  6. Library materials may not be removed from the Library unless they have been properly issued by a Library staff or through a SelfCheck machine.

  7. All books and personal belongings must be shown to the staff at the Library exits whenever required to do so.

  8. Electronic scanning of library materials is not allowed.

  9. Library membership cards are not transferable and must be produced whenever requested by Library staff.

  10. Please keep your library card safely and ensure that you and no one else uses the library card.

  11. If a lost or stolen card is found or recovered after a replacement card has been made, the member must not subsequently use the card but return it immediately to the Library.

  12. Library membership cards, when lost, must be reported immediately in person or by telephone to the Circulation Department in the Central Library or any Special Library. A lost student card may be replaced by a temporary library card at the Office of the Users Services Division at a non-refundable fee of $5.00. External members may replace their lost cards at a non-refundable fee of $25.00 for the first replacement, $50.00 for the second replacement and $100.00 for the third replacement.  The member shall be liable for any transactions resulting from the unauthorised use of the card before the loss or theft is reported to the Library.

Please note that all monies (except fines) collected by the Library are subject to GST.

  13. Members must ensure that materials checked out to them are returned or renewed on or before the date due. Notices sent by the Library serve only as a reminder and non-receipt of the notices does not absolve any member from paying fines or other penalties as stated in these Rules.

  14. Members are required to notify the Office of Users Services Division immediately of any change of postal address or email address.

  15. Mutilation and theft of library materials are offences punishable by law and, in the case of National University of Singapore students and staff, are also disciplinary offences. Appropriate action will be taken by the University against offenders. A student found guilty is liable to be expelled from the University.

  16. Fines may be imposed, library privileges or membership may be suspended or withdrawn for breach of any of the Library Rules. For students found guilty, disciplinary action may be taken. A two-month suspension from borrowing Reserved Books/Readings (RBR) materials may be imposed for frequent late returns or loss of RBR materials.

  17. All debts to the library must be paid when due to the library or the Office of Finance of the National University of Singapore as specified.

  18. The library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings of users.

  19. Members are encouraged to check their library record in LINC regularly.
