Reference Resources

  • Librarian's Resource Center: the toolbox by the SLA Toronto Chapter provides a "selective collection of resources compiled to facilitate informational research and retrieval."  It contains links to directories, ready reference, topical guides, library catalogues, etc.   It also provides links to Professional Development and Technical resources. 
  • The Internet Index edited by Win Treese provides an "occasional collection of facts and statistics about the Internet and related activities."
  • The Virtual Technical Reports Center by the University of Maryland Universities features alphabetical listings of full-text technical reports, preprints, reprints, dissertations, theses and research reports.  It is updated weekly. 
  • ZDNet's Incredibly Useful Site of the Day features annotated links to sites on personal finance, reference, entertainment, education, travel, medical/legal, politics/government, household, health, shopping, etc.

Bibliographies

  • Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography "presents selected articles, books, electronic documents, and other sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet and other networks."  Maintained by Charles W. Bailey Jr. of the University of Houston Libraries.

E-formats

  • eBookNet contains information on ebook hardware, software, writing, publishing and business developments.  It includes weekly features on a e-Publisher, as well as links to downloadable sample books/chapters.

Listservs

  • LibraryLand : resources for librarians is maintained by Jerry Kuntz. It covers awide range of resources for areas like collection development, automation, general library issues.
  • The Public Access Computer Systems Forum (PACS-L) deals with end-user computer systems in libraries.   Maintained by the University of Houston.  PACS-P list also available for those who wish to receive announcements of selected library publications including newletters and bibliographies.
  • ResPool is "an electronic mailing list established for researchers, information specialists and others interested in sharing potentially useful and informative resources on the Internet."   Maintained by Robert J. Tiess.
  • Web4Lib Electronic Discussion is a forum for discussing issues relating to the creation and management of library based WWW servers and clients.  Hosted by the UC Berkeley Library.

  • BUBL Information Service is the web site of the Bulletin Board for Libraries in UK. It has links to many British web sites on various subjects, journals, and libraries.

  • ALA Online Datebook of Events contains information about events sponsored by ALA and its divisions.  Event listings include conferences, exhibits, workshops, international events, study tours, etc.

Interesting Projects

  • Great Libraries on the Web is collection of library Web pages with a short description of the site. Also arranged by special features and type of library.
  • Scholarly Societies Project 'has been created to facilitate access to information about scholarly societies across the world'. It has their web sites and gopher sites organised alphabetically and by subject, full-text archives, mainly for newsletters, from the participating societies and background information about how the project was started.
  • Top Trends by LITA showcases new technology trends in libraries and provides useful resources and links to aid strategic planning.

Search Engines

  • Fossick.com is a "selective collection of over 2,000 search engines and topical guides."  It also features a meta search engine to search the entire Net.

  • Search Engine Colossus by Bryan A. Strome is an "international directory of search engines featuring links to over 1400 search engines from 136 countries," categorized by countries and by subjects.

  • Search Engine Watch by ProBoost provides information on the latest news on search engines, search engine tips, reviews, ratings and tests of search engines.
