list of projects and other
resources such as forums, conferences and links to sites and papers.
The New Zealand
Digital Library at the University of Waikato aims to explore the potential of
Internet-based digital libraries. It offers several demonstration collections
searchable via the Web interface.
CanadaCanadian Initiative
on Digital Libraries seeks to "promote, coordinate and facilitate the development
of Canadian digital collections and services..." This site features
documentation about the initiative as well as links to member sites.
European Union
United Kingdom
- eLib
Electronic Libraries Program aims to "provide a body of tangible, electronic
resources and services for UK Higher Education, and to affect a cultural shift towards the
acceptance and use of said resources and services in place of more traditional information
storage and access methods." The site features information about ongoing projects, news and other
useful resources.
United States
Electronic
Collections and Services provides a bibliography of documents and articles relating to
digital libraries with links to the full text. Also has sections on library and
information science, internet and networking as well as information policy.
Maintained by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
(IFLA).
- The
Digital Library Federation is composed of 20 university research libraries in the
United States who manage and operate digital libraries. It features useful
information on its strategic plan, organization, publications, initiatives and
presentations.
- Digital
Library Resources, maintained by the Library of Congress, provides links to general
resources on digital libraries as well as organizations with digital library initiatives.
- NSF Digital Library
Initiatives provides "leadership in research fundamental to the development of
the next generation of digital libraries, to advance the use and usability of globally
distributed, networked information resources, and to encourage existing and new
communities to focus on innovative applications areas."
- Sunsite
Digital Collections, maintained by the University of California at Berkeley, offers a
rich source of digitized documents, photographs, reports and even a virtual tour of the
history of the campus.

Projects
United Kingdom
- The eLib
website has a list of electronic library projects including Hybrid Libraries, Large Scale
Resource Discovery, and Digital preservation projects.
United States
- Alexandria Digital
Library is a research project which focuses on providing access to
geographically-referenced information. Maintained by the University of California at
Santa Barbara.
- Informedia Digital
Video Library is a research initiative at the Carnegie-Mellon University. It
aims to build a multimedia library containing digital video, audio, images, text and other
related materials.
- The Stanford
Digital Libraries Project focuses on interoperability and a uniform way to search for
a vast array of information. The site provides information on their projects,
reports, testbeds as well as links to related information.
- The UC Berkeley Digital
Library Project offers digital collections such as photographs, documents, geographic
data as well as zoological and botanical datasets. It also provides information
about the project.
