The following guide lists some essential reference sources available in the NUS Libraries for research on public policy and management. While many indexes and abstracts are now available online, some are available only in CD-ROMs.  To access those online, from the library portal, select E-Resources >> By Type >> Indexes and abstracts. To access those available in CD-ROMs, take down their stacks number and request them from the Loans Desks.

 

ABI/ Inform Complete [Web]

A comprehensive database of business, management, finance, accounting, economics, public administration, etc. Indexes over 2400 journals. Full text coverage is available from 1991 for many of the journals. Backfiles of abstracts are also available from 1971. Updated daily.

 

Bibliography of Asian Studies [Web]

Covers articles, book chapters and conference papers on all aspects of Asia published since 1971. Arranged by country and subdivided by subject areas such as Economics, Politics and government, etc.  

 

Business Source Premier [Web]

Contains indexing and abstracts for more than 3,800 journals relating to business, finance, management and economics. Linked to thousands of full text articles. Updated daily.

 

EconLit [Web]

It provides abstracts and bibliographic citations to articles in the field of economics including consumer economics, monetary policy, labor, marketing, demographics, modeling, and economic theory. The records in the database are drawn from over 550 international journals, books, dissertations, book reviews, essays, research papers, and working papers. Updated monthly.

 

Current Contents Connect [Web]
Allows users to search for new journal articles from all seven editions of Current Contents, which include the life sciences, arts & humanities as well as the social & behavioral sciences.

 

ERIC [Web]

Provides extensive access to articles on educational-related literature.

 

Expanded Academic ASAP [web]
From the arts and the humanities to the social sciences, science and technology, this database meets research needs across all disciplines. Provides access to scholarly journals, news magazines and newspapers.

Updated monthly.

 

IntIEc (index to international economics, development and finance) [CD-ROM]

Includes citations with abstracts to journal articles and research papers. Subject coverage includes international development; global economics trends and monetary policy. Updated quarterly.

 

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences [Web]

Contains bibliographic information from an international selection of publications (including over 2600 journals) in the fields of economics, political science, sociology, and anthropology.


PAIS [CD-ROM]

Index to journal articles, books, government documents on a broad spectrum of subjects which includes the social sciences, business, finance and public administration.

 

Perind
Contains citations of periodical articles, book chapters and conference papers relating to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN (as an entity)

 

Social Sciences Abstracts [Web]
Coverage includes subject areas in Economics, Sociology, Political science and Public Welfare. Abstracting coverage begins with periodicals published in January 1994. 

 

Social Sciences Citation Index [Web]
Provides bibliographic data and cited references to articles, reports of meetings, letters and editorials published in journals. Abstracts provided from 1991 and subject area covers the social sciences.

 

Sociological Abstracts [Web]
Indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences.  Includes subject areas such as policy, planning, forecast and speculation. Provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,700 serials publications, as well as provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers.

 

Social Services Abstracts [Web]

Provides bibliographic coverage of current research focused on social work, human services, and related areas, including social welfare, social policy, health policy and community development. The database abstracts and indexes over 1,406 serials publications and includes abstracts of journal articles and dissertations, and citations to book reviews.

 

Social Work Abstracts Plus [Web]
Contains more than 26,000 records, spanning 1977 to the present, from social work and other related journals on topics such as homelessness, child and family welfare, aging and more. 

 

Transport [CD-ROM]

Combines the databases of 3 leading research organizations: OECD's International Road Research Documentation; ECMT TRANSDOC database; TRB Transportation Research Information Services.

9. Newspapers

 

Factiva [Web]
For searching and obtaining the full text articles from major world newspapers such as New York Times, Financial Times and others as well as journals. The Straits Times and Business Times articles covered are from Jan 1995.

 

LexisNexis Academic [Web]

Another database for searching and obtaining the full text newspaper articles from Washington Post, Financial Times and other newspapers and journals. The issues covered for the Straits Times and Business Times are from May 1992.

 

Press Clippings

Located in the Singapore - Malaysia Collection, Central Library. iA useful source for topical and current information, not available in journal articles or books. Articles on Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN from The Straits Times and Business Times are arranged by broad subjects chronologically. A copy of Press clippings subject headings is also available near the collection.

More than 200 time-series indicators for 138 countries. Data from 1970.

 

Global Market Information Database [Web]

Produced by Euromonitor and provides data on countries and various consumer markets.

 

International Financial Statistics (IFS) [CD-ROM]

Has annual, quarterly or monthly time series and financial statistics of over 200 countries. Includes figures for balance of payment, exchange rates, interest rates, government finance and national accounts. Data from 1948. Produced by International Monetary Fund.

 

International Statistical Yearbook [CD-ROM]

Gives statistical data from IMF, OECD, Eurostat, UNIDO, CITICORP, Federal Reserve Bank of Germany, major official international economic databases, including special country databases for USA and Germany. Data from 1991.

SingSTAT Time Series Directory Online [Web]

The directory shows the titles of Singapore statistics available in the SingSTAT database. The data can be downloaded to diskette by filling the STS Request Form, with approval from your supervisor and head of Dept, and submitting the form at the CL Information Desk.

 

Source OECD: Statistics [Web]

Contains 24 OECD statistical databases covering data from 1960 onwards covering economics, trade, finance, national accounts.

 

Word Development Indicators [CD-ROM].
Contains more than 500 time series indicators for over 200 countries economies. The data is grouped under six headings; World View, People, Environment, Economy, States and Market, and Global Links. Produced by the World Bank.

 

World Data [CD-ROM].
Has national accounts data from 1960, social indicators from 1965 and other data from 1970 for many countries.

ProQuest digital dissertations [Web]

Web version of Dissertation Abstracts and equivalent in print to Dissertation Abstracts International. Contains citations and abstracts of doctoral dissertations and master’s theses submitted to over 1,000 North American graduate schools, European and Australian universities. Abstracts provided from 1980. Titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital format and have 24 page previews.

Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies (Princeton University).

Provides abstracts and full pdf versions of the periodically published working papers that highlight the findings of the research carried out by the Center. Provides also full-text of the Center's occasional papers and  students' theses. Has link to CPANDA (Cultural Policy and the Arts National Data Archives) a fully searchable digital archive containing policy-relevant information on arts and culture.

 

Center for Health and Public Policy Studies (university of California, Berkeley)

Provides full-text of many of the Center's publications and research on health care policy and system.

 

Innovation Policy Studies (CORDIS)

Provides a list of all the innovation Policy studies published by the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS). The studies are grouped according to innovation policy; technology transfer; innovation finance ; innovation management; geographical issues and approaches; communication and awareness. The publications and the summary of their findings are available for download.

 

Policy studies Institute(UK)

The site of one of Britain's leading independent research institutes. Has links to publications of the Institute, including those published before 1995, available for free from this web site, which would otherwise have become out of print.
